The time machine (movie, 2002) review

I'm going to review the movie adaption of The time Machine By H.G. Wells. I'm reviewing this movie because its a movie that really makes you think about it. It's about a scientist, who in the movie was named Alexander Hartdegen. At the beginning of the movie, he is shown to always be working in his lab, forgetting things when he's into his work, like how he had a date that night. LAter he goes off to meet the woman he loves, and proposes to her during a walk through the park. However through a cruel twist of fate, she is killed just a few minutes later by a mugger. Alexander, who blames himself for the incident, and is overwhelmed by sadness spends the next two years building a time machine, in hopes of seeing her again. He succeeds in building it, and travels back in time to try to change the past and save her. However, although he takes her far away from where she oringinally died, she still dies in another way ( by a rather odd incident from someone he met earlier that day). Realizing that she would die no matter what he did, he decides to travel forward in time, trying to find the answer to one question: Why couldn't he change the past? He keeps going forward, in time, observing the world changing around him as time moves forward. The advancement of science and the changing of the Earth.

The reason I like this movie is because it makes you ask the question "What if"? Also, to anyone whose ever lost a loved one, they could relate to how the time traveller is feeling, wishing he could save her. It's interesting to see what happens to the world. When scientific progress goes too far. Also, the answers he gets for his questions really make you think about it. It's still a science fiction movie, so towards the end it gets a little confusing, but it's still a great movie.

The movie was directed by H.G Wells great grandson, Simon Wells, who added his own plot twist onto the story. The effects in the movie are great. When he's in the time machine, he exist outside of time as it moves forward, and you can see every change, such as plants growing, city's being built, the seasons changing and etc. Guy pearce gives a great perfomance as the time traveller, and the rest of the cast does just as well. I personally would give the movie a 5/5 rating, but thats just me. I would recommend this movie to just about anyone who likes a good science fiction movie with a good story and this movie really makes you think about what will happen to the world in the future, and to live life now.
